Jean and Arthur Ames scrapbook collection, 1929-1980 (bulk 1929-1974).

The collection contains examples of paintings, enamel panels, tapestry designs, murals and drawings created by Jean and Arthur Ames. The scrapbooks, which have been disassembled and kept in the original order, were originally titled: Art in collaboration--ceramic title decoration, enamel, mosaic, tapestry, painting, drawing. Also included are several magazine articles and art exhibit announcements. The collection covers the years 1929-1980 with the bulk of the material ranging from 1934 to 1939 and 1967 to 1974.

Jean Goodwin Ames, painter, muralist, sculptor and ceramicist, was born and raised in Santa Ana, Calif. She first studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and received a B.A. from U.C.L.A. in 1931 and a Masters in Fine Arts from U.S.C. in 1937. She taught art at Citrus Hish School and Junior College from 1933-1936 and at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate School from 1940-1969.
